Take action

Things to try this week

In this chapter you have added appreciation to your list of skills and have contributed to a more positive culture.

Now it is time to put what you have learned into action.

Try this week

Throughout this week, aim to notice the positive people and things around you and appreciate them - out loud!

Try these exercises:

1.

Every day for one week, at the end of the day reflect on your day and write down:

  • What are you grateful for in your life and in yourself?
  • How have you shifted and changed in this programme?
  • What do you appreciate about the people in your life?

2.

Every day, appreciate at least one person you work with, starting with the three people you have planned appreciative comments for. Make it simple and conversational.

To take your learning further:

1.

Write down your key learnings from this chapter and take them to your learning group meeting to discuss. You will find a guide for this session along with the key takeaways from this chapter in the Resources area, in the header bar.

2.

You have completed this course!

Well done for completing this course - it was a lot of working with emotion!

Take a moment to reflect on the changes you have made and congratulate yourself for being more conscious about how you interact with others.

Please celebrate:

  • How you have made 'difficult' conversations easier.
  • How you have learned to defuse your strong emotions.
  • How you have developed curiosity about your subtle limbic reactions.
  • The focus you have put on creating agreements with others.
  • The work you have done to prevent blowups in difficult conversations.
  • How you have learned to give feedback effortlessly.
  • The ways you have integrated positive appreciative comments into your everyday conversations
  • How you have looked at why you are afraid of some conversations and moved beyond that fear.
  • The ways you have diligently prepared for difficult conversations.
  • How you know how to care for others when you are delivering a sensitive message.
  • How you have deepened your understanding of humanity and why we get in conflicts and disagreements
  • How you have increased your compassion for others and their limbic reactions/needs.
